Guided Tours

Have a more dynamic and engaging museum experience!

Guided tours enhance any group experience. Tours are conducted by our knowledgeable staff and allow groups to learn more about the history of our museum, artifacts in our collection, and the evolution of transportation.

*Guided tours must be booked at least two weeks in advance.*

Guided Group Rates

  • Children* (3-12): $7.00 ea.
  • Adults (13-65): $13.00 ea.
  • Seniors (65+):$11.00 ea.
  • Developmently Disabled**:$5.00 ea.

One adult is required  every 5 children. **Accompanying escorts at no charge.

Self Guided Tours

Self Guided tours allow groups to experience the collection at their own pace and to focus on items of special interest. For teachers it allows them to tailor the visit to the needs of the class and to ensure the tour experience coincides with specific course work.

*Self-guided tours must be booked at least one week in advance with a minimum of 10 guests.*
**Please note: This pricing is not general admission**

Self Guided Tour Rates

  • Adults (13-65):  $9.00 ea.
  • Children* (3-12): $4.00 ea.
  • Seniors (65+): $7.00 ea.
  • Developmentally Disabled**:  $4.00.ea

Educational Tours

The Museum collection provides educational information on specific topics and also coincides with the various goals of the Colorado State Educational Standards. Some of the topics in our exhibits include:

  • The chronology of technological developments in transportation.
  • Industrial Development.
  • Technological and industrial advancements, including Henry Ford’s assembly line.
  • Early simple machines, bicycles in particular, and the tools used to work on them.
  • Westward Expansion through our railroad and horse drawn exhibits.
  • Both public and private forms of transportation demonstrating economic class divisions in 20th Century America.
  • Early aviation pioneers, including Amelia Earhart and Colorado’s own Frank Vandersarl.
  • Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 Steam Locomotive, the “Big Boy,” used during WWII to transport troops and goods.
  • Our automobile collection illustrates changes in technology, consumerism, the rise of suburban living and the American lifestyle which became centered around the car as the primary form of transportation.
  • Children* (5-12):$7.00 ea.
  • Students (13-18):$10.00 ea.
  • Adults (19+):$12.00 ea.

Using dining car menus and china, and railroadiana such as timetables, we provide a glimpse into what travel was like on the famous railroads of that now-vanished era, before the consolidation of passenger service into Amtrak in 1971.
