3rd, 1886, the day that the first usable car in the world was given
its first public outing thus beginning a new era. It had a 4-stroke
single cylinder 990cc engine and could reach speeds of 12 kph. Benz's
automobile had innovations that are still used today- electric ignition,
a water-cooled engine and a quite modern differential gear. When
Benz's "horseless carriage" appeared at the 1893 World's
Fair, it ignited the imagination of the public and triggered the
beginning of the automobile industry.
